Late on Monday, North Korea launched a missile they claimed was capable of reaching the U.S. On Tuesday, the Trump administration confirmed the claim.
The missile was launched into the Sea of Japan at an angle so high, it reportedly stayed in the air for 37 minutes. Based on the information available regarding the launch, experts are indicating that the missile has the ability to reach the state of Alaska, but not the continental United States or the state of Hawaii.
President Trump, who has repeatedly expressed little tolerance for North Korea's weapons tests, expressed his anger on Twitter late Monday night. The president is expected to discuss strategies for preventing North Korea's nuclear escalation at the Group of 20 meeting in Germany later this week.
David Wright, co-director of the Global Security Program at the Union of Concerned Scientists, joins The Takeaway to explain the data currently available regarding the missile.
